Mr Perfectionist is role playing again in a series of new ads for Godrej products. Does he make a pretty woman? You tell us!
Aamir Khan has a new name – he is now Sonia, a well dressed and charming woman who makes friends with his friend Sam’s wife, Meera. No, the actor is not cross-dressing, but trying to collect information for a role, or so the story suggests. In the process, Aamir also promotes two Godrej products – the new Godrej Interio dining table with an in-built hot plate and a Godrej Eon air-conditioner.




The series begins with Aamir dropping by his friend’s home, all dressed up in a pretty frock, a pair of heels and a stylish wig. Even as his buddy Sam protests, his wife Meera appears and makes friends with Aamir, aka Sonia. In the second ad, Aamir is invited to dinner by Sam; as he stretches his hand out to pick up something, he burns his fingers and says a rude word. Meera objects, but explains that the heat comes from the new Godrej Interio dining table with an in-built hot plate.

Soon after, in episode three, Meera freaks Sonia out when she gives her a skimpy frock and asks her to try it on. The fully dressed Sonia is obviously reluctant to change, since after all she is not a woman, but Aamir, the man! But in spite of the voluminous dress she/he wears, the actor is still cold. It’s the new Godrej Eon air-conditioner, Meera points out.

Set up in a warm and cosy atmosphere, the ads are shot in a very sitcom-like manner. With a screenplay by ace director Zoya Akhtar and, of course, the easy acting of Aamir, these clips portray a sense of casual, friendly bonding that happens in everyday life. Which is just what the company reportedly wants to establish with its consumers, we hear.
