Box office report: Aatma and Rangrezz lose out to Jolly LLB

Bipasha Basu’s horror flick and Jackky Bhagnani’s friendship tale failed to draw audiences to the theatres. Meanwhile, Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB continues to rule the ticket counters
The opening weekend for this week’s new releases, Aatma and Rangrezz was just average. The Bipasha Basu-Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer earned approximately Rs 5 crores at the box office, while the Jackky Bhagnani starrer collected merely Rs 3.5 crores.




Even though Aatma had an edge over Rangrezz since there’s a huge market for horror films, the movie failed to capitalise on the genre. Unlike Bips’ previous horror flick Raaz 3, Aatma didn’t live up to the expectations. It collected Rs 1.5 crores on Friday, Rs 1.6 crores on Saturday and Rs 1.9 crores on Sunday.

Rangrezz – a movie targeted at the youth – too failed to create any buzz at the ticket counters. Vashu Bhagnani’s attempt to establish his son Jackky Bhagnani career’s met with an average response. The movie earned Rs 1 crore on Friday, Rs 1.2 crores on Saturday and Rs 1.3 crores on Sunday. Meanwhile, last week’s release Jolly LLB continued it good run at the box office. “Jolly LLB total: Rs 24.77 crores nett. Excellent!” tweeted Taran Adarsh.

Aatma and Rangrezz won’t have much scope to pick up pace in the coming days, as Himmatwala is scheduled to hit the theatres this week.
